We wanted to let you know about some upcoming worker health and safety leadership training opportunities. At this time, UC Berkeley’s Labor Occupational Health Program (LOHP) is offering this as a remote training opportunity, through Zoom. LOHP partners with labor and community organizations in a variety of ways to ensure that workers have the knowledge, skills and support to help create safe, fair and just workplaces.
These FREE worker leader trainings – the Worker Occupational Safety and Health (WOSH) Specialist courses – will be held the following dates and times:
- February course: February 2, 4, 9, & 11 from 9am-12pm each day (FLYER)
- March course: March 16, 18, 23, & 25 from 1-4pm each day (FLYER)
These classes will be conducted remotely via Zoom, with 12 virtual contact hours and additional activities to be completed independently. After completion of the course, a certificate will be provided. To register, please visit https://lohp.berkeley.edu/woshtep-registration/
Workers interested in becoming a WOSH Specialist attend the course where they are introduced to key occupational safety and health concepts as well as learn important leadership skills. This workshop will include up-to-date information about COVID-19 and prevention activities. The WOSH Specialist Training Program is part of a statewide effort, administered by the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation within the California Department of Industrial Relations, to reduce job-related injuries and illnesses among California workers. This FREE interactive training provides employees with the resources and tools to take a leadership role in promoting health and safety in their workplace. Identifying and controlling hazards, workload and stress, communication skills, workers’ comp and return-to-work, workers’ rights, and making change through health and safety committees are just a few topics we will cover throughout the training!
