Contextualizing and Illustrating Why COVID-19 Has Disproportionately Impacted the Island

Washington DC- On Wednesday, September 2, at 5 pm ET/ 2pm PT, The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) will host a town hall, All of US: Puerto Rico, from Economic and Natural Disasters to COVID-19 and the Importance of Union Solidarity. The purpose of this virtual gathering will be to shed light on the current situation that scores of Puerto Ricans are going through as a result of failed policies and a series of natural disasters that have weakened the island’s ability to battle the deadly virus.

Speakers at this timely event will include prominent labor leaders, as well Puerto Rican workers who will share their stories, fears, and hopes, as they explain what life is like nowadays on the Caribbean island.

On this opportunity, LCLAA will also present its most recent report, “Puerto Rico, from Economic and Natural Disasters to COVID-19 and the Importance of Union Solidarity.” This document analyzes, exemplifies and chronologically explains how the island’s ability to manage the economic and health crisis unleashed by COVID-19, was wiped out by economic policies and natural events.
