White supremacists will be coming to our city on Saturday, August 26th. We must stand up and make clear hatred, racism and bigotry are not welcome in San Francisco.
As we expressed in our official statement, the recent events in Charlottesville call upon us all to speak out boldly against white supremacy, neo-Nazism, and white nationalism in all forms. Racism, anti-Semitism, hatred, and fear should have no home in America. Working people know that standing shoulder to shoulder together makes us stronger as a people and as a nation. The San Francisco Labor Council is committed to advancing racial justice, as doing so is fundamental to working people uniting to create better workplaces and a more inclusive economy.
On Saturday the Labor Council will be a part of the march from Harvey Milk Plaza to the Civic Center with other community organizations. We understand other labor and community groups are taking part in other actions and we are embracing what folks are calling a “diversity of tactics” for Saturday actions. We must do all we can to keep ourselves and each other safe and active in the movement for a free and just world. What we cannot do is be “non-political” when white supremacists are in our midst.
The action is scheduled to start at Noon on Saturday at Harvey Milk Plaza, at the corner of Market and Castro in SF. We will keep you all updated as details on the rally and march from Harvey Milk Plaza are fleshed out and encourage our affiliate unions and members join the Labor Council in making our voices of resistance and opposition heard.
Start Time: 11:30
