101 California Street , SF

The Security Industry is one of few industries in San Francisco that employs large numbers of black workers. It is no coincidence that security officers’ wages and benefits are low although they work in very wealthy buildings. There much lower percentages of black employees in management than in the broader workforce. At the same time Black Communities in San Francisco and the entire Bay Area are facing a displacement crisis and high unemployment.

For all these reasons SEIU USWW Security Officers have launched a campaign for black worker justice demanding:
Better wages, benefits, and working conditions for security officers in the city wide negotiations for new union contract;
A pathway for job advancement into better paying positions;
A collaboration between the industry and community partners to ensure more access to jobs for the black community; and
Statewide legislation to address challenges in enforcement against workplace discrimination: SB491

Join fellow UESF members, parents, school supporters and the Bay Resistance Network for a major rally on Tuesday, April 11th in support of public schools and our contract campaign! The demonstration will begin at the San Francisco Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Ave. (between Polk and Larkin), where we will rally against the DeVos/Trump agenda to dismantle our public education system. We will then march to 555 Franklin to take part in a rally for a new contract and our ongoing campaign for stable, safe, and supportive schools!

Following the dramatic testimony of dozens of SFUSD educators last month at City Hall, it is clear that the district must act quickly to address the affordability crisis or risk losing potentially hundreds of dedicated educators. Let’s do our part to make some noise and show them that we, and our students, are worth the investment!

Please RSVP today and make a plan with your colleagues to attend the demonstration. Join the demonstration at the Federal Building or at 555 Franklin.
